Dear friends and family,
I am almost at the one-year mark of my diagnosis! As most of you know, I was diagnosed in January 2024 with terminal Stage 4 Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer with a rare mutation called ROS1. The disease cannot be cured but "thanks" to the ROS1 mutation, available targeted treatments can keep the cancer in check and provide patients with a lot of hope for many years of a good quality of life.
Without the treatment I am currently receiving, I would not have made it even this far. I never thought I'd be in this position and sometimes it's not easy to live with the uncertainty of the outcome of this deadly disease. But I'm here today and that's want I want to focus on!
Most people are not aware that the number one cancer killer for women is not breast cancer. In the U.S. alone, lung cancer kills more women than ANY other cancer. Only about 1% of all lung cancer patients worldwide have the ROS1 mutation - we call ourselves the ROS1ders - and compared to other cancers, the research for ROS1 lung cancer is completely underfunded.
